How to back up your Wii games to SD card

This is a good tool if you are interested in keeping a backup of your games in case something happens to the discs. Also, if you follow these instructions, I’m going to work on another project this week so we can play our Wii backups on computer. There’s an emulator called Dolphin that i’ll be checking out for next weeks show.

This guide assumes you’ve followed along with the homebrew channel install from prior episodes.

Step 1.

Download a WAD Manager. I’m using Wad Manager v1.3 by Waninkoko. I honestly couldn’t care less about the politics behind Waninkoko, this software gets the job done without much fuss.

Step 2.

Download a Wii Disc Dumper app. I’m using the Wii disc dumper v1.2 by nitrotux

Step 3.

Install the Wii Disc Dumper from the wiidumpsd.dol included in the wiidumpersd 1.2 rar file. To do so:

A) Make a new folder called WiiDumper in the /apps/ directory on your SD card
B) Copy the wiidumpersd.dol file to the new WiiDumper directory

Install the ios5.wad included with the wiidumpersd 1.2 rar file. To do so:

A) Make a folder called Wad Manager in the /apps/ directory on your SD card
B) Copy the wad manager .dol file to the new wad Manager directory
c) Make a new folder in the root of your SD card called “wad”
D) Copy the ios5.wad file to the new wad folder

Step 4.

Create a icon.png and a meta.xml file for both folders. You can just base these off of other apps you have on your SD card. These ensure that the Wii Dumper and the Wad Manager will show up in your homebrew browser.

Step 5.

Insert the card into your Wii and boot up. Insert a Wii game disc to dump to your SD card
Load the homebrew channel and then load the WiiDumper. Press B to select disc type (Wii Single Layer DVD, Wii Dual Layer DVD, Gamecube DVD). Press 1 to set part numbers (3 parts for Wii single layer, 6 parts for wii dual layer, 1 part for gamecube dvd). Press 2 to set the part size (1500, 750m 375 MB)

You will need to reboot the Wii after each part.
I assume after each part is complete you will need to copy the file created on the SD card by the wiidumper to your PC. Then erase the file from the SD card to free up space, pop it back in your wii, relaunch disc dumper and continue with the next part.

The dumper takes a very long time to backup your disc, so I suggest playing on your computer or something while you wait!

Photo Finder
Face.com recently came out with Photo Finder, a tool that lets you find photos of yourself by using facial recognition on Facebook. The app is only in alpha and you have to sign up for an alpha code. This is my code which will work for the first 10 joiners:
