My Big Move

First off I’ll say this: Of course I’m not leaving Hak5, you’re being silly. Stop that nonsense.

So, I wanted to give everyone a thorough update on why I’m in Missouri all of a sudden. My dad has been diagnosed with a disease and was put in the hospital about half a year ago. Ever since that time, I’ve been trying to visit my family as much as possible over the holidays and everything so that I can see him and possibly help him recover. His disease isn’t life threatening, just very long term. As much as I didn’t want to be one of those ‘always comes back to Waynesville’ people, I thought it was the right thing to do given my dad’s condition. Who know? Perhaps my being able to visit him more often will help him! I’ll be in Missouri as long as I have to stay here. This move is temporary. I don’t plan on picking up a job here or anything, since I will be doing Hak5 and being paid for that. Also, so I don’t get bored, I’m thinking about selling Lia Sophia jewelry. Yeh, I’m a girl. Don’t judge me.

A few months ago I was looking around my town of Williamsburg, VA and thought “wow, there really aren’t any places for 20-somethings to hang out around here…” I had already seen everything and done everything in the city, and knew that Hak5 wasn’t going to go anywhere being stuck in that small town. This is where CES 2010 came in and Darren and I were seriously considering moving to a big city… like, San Francisco. Well, given the family situation I’ve been having, I’m staying in Missouri TEMPORARILY. Darren is going to be moving to San Francisco. Luckily, he already has a place lined up and friends to show him around town. Since moving to another city and trying to sell an owned house takes some time, it’ll probably be a few months til everything has been moved to the west coast. In the meantime, Darren is in the UK throwing a few big meetups (search: Hak5 Meetup on Facebook), and then he is taking his bike cross country to SF!

Hak5! What about Hak5 until he moves? Well, there will be a UK show and some shows somewhere in the states. As far as my segments- I have a camera, a light, and a stand for my netbook, so I can still do segments and transfer the files to Darren.

Whats up with the site? We’ve been in the process of moving the site to a new host and updating a lot of the information. Until the site is restored, which will probably be a week (since the host is in another country atm!) you can get your technolust at http://www.revision3.com/hak5. Also, Revision3 has forums if you’ve never checked those out.

And Kerby? Kerby is staying with me. With the host moving to SF and selling the house, the car is also going to be sold. Although Kerby would look adorable with a pair of goggles and a scarf and helmet for the motorcycle, we thought it less traumatic to just take her in my car to Missouri. Kerby has adopted me and luckily my family loves her already.

I think that pretty much covers it. I’m looking forward to new beginnings!

Sorry to hear about your pops, but glad you got there safe. I was watching your vid-car-cast and just wanted to say, next time leave the camera off and drive. We dont need to turn on the news to hear about how you wiped out on the highway. (at least you would have a video record of the incident in the event you something did happen XD )

Glad to see hak5 is still going to make it another season and the show is progressing! San Fran-”cicso” sounds like a big move for you guys but also a new start. Best of luck and hope everything works out for you guys, the show and your dad. What will become of Paul? Is he moving with you guys?

    Take care…

Sorry to read about your Dad Snubs, but I’m sure having family near by will help him, always helped me when I was in hospital.

Glad you made it safe and sound, that was one hell of a drive, and nice to see you stream some of it. You’re one manic driver by the way.

Also yay for more Hak5 goodness from multiple locations, as for jewellery, Aoife likes shiny, so I may buy her some. :)

    All our love,
    Robb and Aoife.

    Snubs,

Bad to hear about your father’s illness. Good to hear that he will recover! Also, very excited for the Hak5 move. I think that will help the show expand and develop into something that will draw an even larger audience.

Your ‘ole home state of Missouri welcomes your short return!

Thanks for the informative post, I was also a bit worried about the future of Hak5. I’m sorry to hear about your dad’s situation, and am sure your presence will bring some positive energy to him.

  9. Nick Skitch Says:

Thanks for the update! It was so strange to see on FB that you were moving and then see you on ustream driving your car and then pictures of all your clothes in the back of your car on flickr. (man, feeling like an internet stalker or something!)

Anyway,.. I’m a big fan of the show and you had me at: “First off I’ll say this: Of course I’m not leaving Hak5, you’re being silly. Stop that nonsense.”

Glad hak5 is moving to the west coast!!!! I’ll come to an event. Also, sorry to hear about your father, .. you’re doing a noble thing.

I have to wonder, are you guys going to start filming at the Rev3 Studio? I’m sorry to hear that your dad is sick, but its good to know he will recover. Give my respects to you and your family, and you have my best wishes.

As someone else mentioned earlier, please drive safely. I know being a hardcore blogger, its hard to not broadcast your move, but please be safe about it, we don’t want to find out something happened to you due to a blogging related accident.

  14. Strife Caecus Says:

Glad to hear your dad’s recovering. Take it easy since we’ll be here. For the time being, welcome back to Missour-uh. As a traveler, I’m always lurking around the state so feel free to hit me up.

Hak5 in the UK? Bloody brilliant!

  15. Ry Says:

First and foremost I hope your father makes a speedy recovery and all positive energy is going out to him from this end. You need the time off to be with your family that is the most important thing and way more important than Hak5 or anything else for that matter. It is good to see such a family oriented person with so much care. If your family is like you and I’m sure they are, you fathers recovery will be ultra fast. Again I wouldn’t at all stress about fans and the need for the Hak5 fix.
If they are true fans they will be there if not oh well. Take care of yourself and your family first.
    Ry
