A Few Notes

On the past three episodes of Hak5, I’ve gotten the chance to talk about some nifty stuff that I’ll touch up on here!

Audiosurf:

The Wikipedia entry for Audiosurf is incredibly good, with lots of information about it:

OpenDNS

http://www.opendns.com/

Your computer reads DNS as an IP address while you read DNS as www.something.com.  Using OpenDNS (which is completely free) lets you block anything from your kids or co-workers, protects you from phishing, customize the logo’s that appear, create shortcuts so you don’t have to type www.gmail.com and instead can type mail, and tons more.  It’s a great free tool for anyone who needs a cheap way to get around normal DNS protocol, and customize something of your very own.

Hak5 BBS

Hak5 has a bulliten board system via telnet.  To get to this in Windows (In Vista make sure to enable the command prompt), go to the Start menu.  Go to Run… and type in cmd.  This takes you to the command prompt window.  Type in telnet bbs.hak5.org (TELNET (spacebar) bbs.hak5.org) and press enter.

This will pull up some nifty Hak5 ascii art and ask you to create a Username and Password.  From there, once you log in, you can read messages, join a chat room, and best of all – play Legend Of the Red Dragon (LORD).  To get to LORD, skip reading your messages, and once you get to the big list of options (usually colored in blue font) choose X for external programs.  Then choose 2 for games, and 6 for LORD.
